Backyard Chickens Attract Hungry Bears

It seems that the recent "homesteading in the suburbs" trend of raising chickens in backyard coops is drawing black bears into communities, luring them into urban areas for a captive meal.
Domestic chickens are welcome in the city, a win for the local food movement and free range supporters. Unfortunately, bears can't resist the taste of an organic pesticide-free meal either.
This article says the solution is not to get rid of the chickens, but to install electric fence around the area. Where we once built fences to keep chickens in, we now need bigger fences to keep bears out.
But don't blame the bears. Those eggs are delicious.
